The flagship chiropractic program at the University of the Western States (UWS) is a rigorous 12-quarter doctoral program that can be completed in three to four years.  Educated on our beautiful campus in Portland, Oregon, students learn from experienced faculty working in the field.  Students gain real-world knowledge to treat patients more effectively and with a relationship-oriented approach.

As the world’s second oldest chiropractic school, UWS has an innovative, evidence-based approach to caring for all individuals;  it combines research, strong scientists, physician knowledge and the inclusion of personal evidence of the patient or client in treatment courses.

The curriculum is designed to integrate concepts and skills in the basic, clinical, and chiropractic sciences that are ultimately applied to patient care.  UWS chiropractic students have the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in human biology while participating in the DC program, without the need for additional classes.

  1. Minimum education: 135 quarterly credits / 90 semester credits of certain term papers, which include:
  2. 36 quarterly credits / 24 semester credits in physics and life sciences, half of which must include a laboratory
  3. UWS recommends the premedical foundation as the best preparation for the DC curriculum. Such courses typically include year-round sequences of biology, general chemistry, organic and / or biochemistry, and physics in appropriate laboratories.
  4. Requirements for the average score: The minimum average score is 3.0 on a scale of 4.0
  5. Applicants with a grade point average below 3.0 but above 2.75 may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  6. Major: Although most UWC students have completed bachelor’s programs in biology, chemistry, kinesiology, or zoology, there is no “best” direction to pursue chiropractic. When choosing a specialty should be guided primarily by their own intellectual interests and aptitudes.
