History of Middlebury Institute of International Studies

Formerly known as the Monterey Institute of International Studies, it is an American graduate program at Middlebury College, a private university located in Middlebury, Vermont.  Founded in 1955, the school offers teaching on campus in Monterey, California.

The institute offers a wide range of master’s and certification programs in a variety of disciplines, such as environmental policy, international business, international policy, language education, translation and interpretation.

The Institute has two specialized postgraduate courses, known as the Graduate School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Teaching (GSTILE) and the Graduate School of International Politics and Management (GSIPM) and several related centers.

The Higher School of Translation, Interpretation and Language Teaching (GSTILE) trains translators, interpreters (including conference interpreters), localization experts and language teachers.
